Bow Windows
Panoramic, Stylish, Made to Measure
What Are Bow Windows?
A popular style that has stood the test of time.
A Bow window is a variety of bay windows that do not require any alterations to your external walls. Unlike the traditional bay, a bow window is a self-supporting projection from your home that extends over your brickwork. This type of window is usually constructed entirely of window panes on the outside to provide striking panoramic views from inside your home. On top of that, the large internal still creates an excellent display space, which allows for plenty of natural light that will brighten your home, whilst making rooms feel bigger. Like the bay, a bow window is made up of over 3 panels, which are either casement or sash windows.
What’s the difference between Bow and Bay Windows?
The main difference between bow and bay windows is that bows project themselves over your home’s brickwork and are self-supporting with flat gallow brackets. On the other hand bay windows require you to extend your brickwork outwards from your property. There are also some more subtle differences. Bow windows allow for a smoother feel due to having more curved edges and softer angles, while generally being constructed of more glass panels. A bay window on the other hand has sharper angles and is made with fewer panels, giving it a slightly different style. However, both the bay and the bow still provide the same great benefits. Stunning panoramic views, plenty of natural light, and space created inside your home.

Creates Space
Like a Bay window, the bow is designed to protrude from your property. This creates new spaces within your home, increasing its curb appeal and overall value. From cosy reading areas to window seating or storage areas, bow windows create versatile spaces that are practical and appealing.
Double & Triple Glazing
Choose from single, double, or triple-glazing windows. Double Glazing is the most popular choice across all of our products to create a stylish and secure home. Double Glazing is simply two panes of glass with a thin layer of colourless and odourless gas sealed between them. This provides excellent thermal insulation which keeps your home warm and cosy, as well as saving you money on your energy bills! The airtight seal between the window panes also prevents condensation and moisture build-up so your home won’t suffer from damp and mould.
Double glazing is a versatile choice for your home that can be installed in all types of windows including casement, sash, and bay windows as well as in all of our doors and our glass conservatory roofs.
Triple Glazing
First popularised in Scandinavia, Triple Glazing consists of three layers of glass with two sealed layers of colourless and ourderless gas between them. This provides twice the protection against cold air from the outside and twice the benefits of Double Glazing across the board.
Benefits
Triple Glazing has the superior energy efficiency rating of all our products, boasting an A++rating compared to the A-A+ rating of double glazing. Not only does this keep your home warm and reduce your energy bills but it also helps to keep your home cooler in the summer months.

Bow Window Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a bow and a bay window?
The bow and bay are very similar windows, with the bow being a variation of the traditional bay window. The main difference between the two windows is that the bow is a self-supporting structure that extends from the property, whereas a bay window requires you to extend the fabric of your property (the brickwork) outwards to form the shape of the window. With this in mind, a bow window is a great choice for those who love the look of the bay but don’t or cannot extend the brickwork of their property.
Another difference between these types of windows is that the bow generally has smoother and more rounded curves than the bay window, and it is made up of more window panels as a result. On the other hand, a bay offers more angled edges, whereas a bow window has smoother angles.
Both the bay and bow window offer the same great benefits. Stunning panoramic views, energy efficiency, new interior spaces, and more.
Which is cheaper, a bay or a bow window?
The cost of a bay or bow window largely depends on the size of the installation, the number of glazed panels being used, whether you are having double or triple glazing, the materials used, and other additional considerations. However, on average a bow window is generally more expensive than a bay window.
A bow window has a more complex installation process and is made up of more glass panels than your average bay window, making them more expensive. Despite, requiring you to extend your brickwork, a bay windows installation is less complex, requiring fewer glass sections. Making it a cheaper option compared to the bow window. The cost of each window can also be influenced by whether you are installing a bow or bay window for the first time or are replacing pre-existing fittings.

Do I need planning permission for a bow window?
As bay and bow windows extend outwards from your property they are generally treated as extensions to your property, meaning you will need planning permission in most cases.
– If you are adding bay or bow windows to the front of your home, YOU DO need planning permission.
– If you are replacing existing bay or bow windows, YOU DO NOT need planning permission.
– If you plan to add bay windows to the side or rear of your property you usually DO NOT need planning permission.
However, if you are unsure contact your local authority for further verification.
Do bow windows add value?
Yes! Bow windows add value to your home for several reasons:
1. They create space inside your home: as the bow window protrudes from your property, it creates space inside your home. Our favorite uses of bow window spaces are cosy reading nooks, comfortable window seating, and versatile storage spaces.
2. Panoramic views: bow windows have a large aperture, consisting of multiple glass panels. This gives a stunning panoramic view from inside your property. This allows plenty of additional sunlight to flood in, making your home feel brighter, warmer, and bigger.
3. Perfect ventilation: a bow window in most cases has multiple openable windows that can be used to create a consistent airflow around your home. This helps keep your property cool and more comfortable in warmer months. Paired with double or triple glazing, these windows will also keep your home warm in the winter, decreasing the use of your central heating whilst boosting your home’s energy efficiency.
4. Increases your curb appeal: the bow window is a popular type of window that has stood the test of time in terms of popularity, style, and design. Properties with bow or bay windows are generally seen as more attractive to potential buyers due to the benefits they bring homeowners and the charm they add to the aesthetics of the building.
As you can see, bow windows have a variety of benefits that add value to you as a homeowner but also to your property’s market value, making them a great investment if you are looking to develop your home.
